Purdue employees give $42
million to campaign, bar raised

University to celebrate faculty/staff
contributions
Faculty, staff and retirees have been invited to
a pancake breakfast this week to celebrate the campus
portion of The Campaign for Purdue.
"It starts at home" is the theme of the
Campus Campaign.
"Purdue faculty and staff provide incredible
professional and financial support each year to our
University," says Peggy Rowe, vice provost and
co-chair with William Rowe of the Campus Campaign.
"We have invited everyone to a special pancake
breakfast to celebrate all of the individual efforts
that come together to make this University great and
to help us achieve our goals of preeminence."
All faculty, administrative and professional staff,
and clerical and service staff should have received
an invitation in campus mail to Thursday's breakfast
and President's Forum.
The breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. in Purdue Memorial
Union. The President's Forum begins at 8 a.m. and
will feature an update on the progress toward Purdue's
strategic goals in discovery, learning and engagement.
Those who plan to attend the breakfast should R.S.V.P.
to the Office of Special Events at 49-40900 or events@purdue.edu.
A shuttle service will be available to those who would
like a ride to the event.
In 2003, 35 percent of all employees - 5,559 faculty
and staff - contributed financial support to the University.
The Campaign for Purdue is an effort to raise $1.3
billion before June 2007 for facilities, faculty support,
student scholarships and fellowships, programs and
centers, and unrestricted funds. As of the end of
December, $838 million had been raised toward the
goal.

Campaign for Purdue passes
halfway mark,
retirees provide support in many
ways
As of early January, The Campaign for Purdue had
raised close to $840 million - well past the halfway
mark toward its $1.3 billion goal.
The Campaign for Purdue was launched officially in
the fall of 2002 and is to wrap up in June 2007. Its
goals are $200 million for programs and centers; $200
million for student scholarships and fellowships;
$200 million for faculty support; $600 million for
facilities; and $100 million in unrestricted funds.
Retirees, faculty and staff have supported the University
in many ways and are being encouraged to continue
their contributions, both professionally and financially.
The Campus Campaign for Purdue is an effort to inform
faculty, staff and retirees about the ways in which
their support can help the University reach its strategic
goals in learning, discovery and engagement.
A celebration, including a pancake breakfast and
President's Forum featuring a strategic plan update,
was held Jan. 15 to honor faculty, staff and retirees.
In the next month, retirees will receive a mailing
outlining opportunities for helping with The Campus
Campaign for Purdue. Included in the mailing will
be information about the President's Matching Gift
Challenge, which is to encourage membership in the
President's Council.
Betty Nelson and Roy Johnson are cochairs of the
Campus Campaign Retiree Advisory Committee.
"No one has a better perspective than Purdue
retirees of the enormous impact of the University
experience on young and not-so-young people who have
been students on this campus over the years,"
says Nelson, past president of the Purdue University
Retirees Association and dean emerita of students.
"We know that the investment we make in scholarships
and facilities provides a legacy that is life-changing
for our students, for Indiana, and the global community."
Over the past year, retirees have contributed more
than $1.5 million to The Campaign for Purdue. They
have given gifts of cash as well as planned gifts
and trust arrangements. Gifts have been focused on
various areas of the University, including for scholarships,
faculty support and programming.
"It is so very exciting to see the innovations
that are taking place at Purdue these days, with new
construction, new faculty, new scholarships, new cutting
edge research and so on," says Johnson, PURA
president. "These things continue to build on
the foundation our retirees helped lay during their
years with the University. It was wonderful seeing
the outpouring of Purdue fan support at the recent
Capital One Bowl in Orlando. In a similar way, Purdue
retirees are longtime, avid fans of the academic mission
and the academic excellence of this great University.
They can be Purdue cheerleaders and show their support
for the "Purdue team" through their support
for The Campaign for Purdue. What a great way to be
a part of a lasting legacy of excellence for future
generations of Boilermakers."
