Commitment to Career Development
AfterSport Group
Founded in 2004 by former collegiate and professional athletes who successfully transitioned into the workforce, the AfterSport Group (ASG) understands the importance of preparing young people for successful lives and careers outside of the professional sports arena. Through a series of workshops and individual coaching sessions offered throughout the year, ASG provides athletes with the tools necessary to make the transition into today's workforce. These workshops are "The Kick-Off" (Overview/ Take Advantage of Available Resources), Career Mapping, Networking/Interviewing and "Corporate Blitz Days".
"The Kick-Off": Provides an overview of what students should take away from the program. This session includes an interactive presentation which focuses on topics such as interviewing etiquette, networking, business attire and follow-up.
Career Mapping: Provides the student-athlete with the groundwork for identifying a career, setting career goals and identifying a path to achieve them.
Networking/Interviewing: Designed to enhance the student-athlete's networking and interviewing skills by focusing on body language, effective communication and controlling the conversation/meeting. Student-athletes can also participate in mock interviews and receive feedback.
"Corporate Blitz Days": Top employers are invited to visit campus for networking/candidate identifcation event. Student-athletes are able to apply previously attained skills to build relationships with potential employers. This is a unique event because it is scheduled around student-athlete's "down periods".
